Why Matrix 4 is going to be Keanu’s next big success – The latest news on the Warner Bros. franchise
Keanu Reeves, the now undisputed king of the internet, will be once again the driving force behind the Matrix universe. After a great summer which saw him going from hit to hit with “John Wick 3”, “Toy Story 4”, and conquering the heart of young audiences with his famous “You are all breathtaking” line.
The greatly anticipated news has moviegoers holding their breath in anticipation, and with good reason. The original iconic trilogy, “The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions”, was a huge box office success earning a combined $1,6 billion.
The release date is not set yet but sources mention the summer of 2020.
Warner Bros. is looking to capitalize on the good image Keanu has right now and set the production in motion by officially giving the green light.
Why is this movie set to stun audiences?
If you are into movies at all, and you should be, you would know that not all continuations are successful. Sometimes they don’t live up to the hype of their predecessors. Sometimes the replacements for the original cast are not as compelling, the story and writing are not as fresh or they are just released at a bad time.
This time around the recipe seems better than ever and here is why:
-The Plot
Based on what we know so far, the movie is not going to be a remake but a completely new chapter. And that chapter will be the work of Lana Wachowski who wrote and directed the original trilogy with her sister Lilly. She will be joined by other writers like David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon. Wachowski is set to direct so the franchise seems in very capable hands.
-The Cast
We already covered Keanu’s royal status. Keanu Reeves has been very popular lately. People have reported that he is an awesome guy, gives a lot back to the community, and despite personal tragedies, he's a very chill dude. And he is hardly ever rude to fans. But we will have Carrie-Ann Moss, back as well. Although the Canadian actress has lately pivoted to the TV series stage with roles in Iron Fist, Wisting, or Tell me a story. Her portrait of Trinity would have been hard to match. There is no news on Morpheus yet a recast could be possible.
-The special effects
The first movie in the Matrix trilogy was released 20 years ago. The special effects and innovating filming techniques took the world by storm. Matrix managed to keep its industry-leading status until James Cameron brought us Avatar, and made it 3D.Today the special effects industry is even better, and Matrix 4 has all the attributes of stunning audiences once again with great visual effects. This time in even better image quality.
-The Studio
Warner Bros. needs this movie to work. Don’t get me wrong, as one of “The Big five”, Warner had released some awesome and successful box office hits. But Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman or Aquaman, did not make it to the first place among the movies the studio released in the last 30 years.Warner will most like throw its full weight behind Matrix 4 to help it reach the domestic gross figures of The Dark Night, or The Dark Knight rises (currently the first and second grossing movies ever released by the studio).
Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film. The announcement was made by Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich which seems to indicate the studio's commitment and investment in the franchise.
The first “Matrix” movies were a cult trilogy with numerous fans and a true powerhouse at the box-office. As an iconic man, such popular culture milestones are not to be missed. Matrix was the top industry dog when it was released 20 years ago and the return of the sci-fi action-packed epic will undoubtedly be a success. So stay tuned for the first trailers and all the latest developments on this story. They will be tomorrow’s hot topic.
