What music do you like? We can figure out who you are by the answer
Music Will Tell You More About Me Than I Ever Will
It’s true, music can speak thousands of words about us, what do we like, what do we hate, it can say a lot about many aspects of one’s life. But it seems that each group of people belong to a certain genre of music, and some can even belong to more than one.
Psychology of music preference is actually a thing. And there is a clear relationship between a person’s character and the genre he listens to. It’s very hard to determine whether it’s the genre that attracts a person to it and then shapes his personality or it’s his character that drives him to the genre in the first place.
I think one just listens to a song and may fall in love with it and start listening to similar ones, it’s that simple. But anyway, I’m not going to talk about that “chicken or egg first” dilemma. Let’s focus more on the different styles and their listeners’ personality. Shall we start?

Hip Hop/Rap
Sup, I’ll start by telling you that you have high self-esteem, you’re confident and you don’t like to be fucked with. Aggressive, but not with everyone around you, only those that piss you off. You can also be a little vain, and it really drags you down sometimes. You only know honesty and you’re straightforward. You speak what’s on your mind and you roll with the fuck what they think motto.
Dance
Well, you’ve got a lot of energy. And I mean a lot… You’re mostly in the mood for a party and you avoid having any problems in your life. You escape any negativity by not facing it, you think the ultimate solution to everything is shaking your body. You like your music loud and your friends are your number 1 spot. When you become hyper you can make very dumb choices but when you put something on your mind, you’re capable of doing it perfectly.

Rock & Metal
Surprisingly, you’re calm and quiet most of the time, but when you get angry, you’re LOUD. You don’t say much and you think humanity sucks. You’re more of an introvert and you can be a little shy. You’d choose to spend the whole day at your house playing video games over an outing with your friends. You’re intelligent but you never get to show it off. You’re also very creative and you’re into different types of art.
Pop
Now it’s time for the most mainstream people in the music industry, and I don’t mean it in a bad way. If you’re a Pop listener it means that you’re an extrovert who cares a lot about people. You’re so into social media, and you almost post about anything that happens in your life. And you’re also very emotional. Sometimes you can’t control your feelings or thoughts, so you collapse and listen to pop songs to help you feel better. You care about actions more than words. Honest and generous but very moody and you can switch moods in minutes (maybe seconds).

Classic
You like to wear elegant clothes and you are very kind. Your words are gentle and simple. You love the simplicity and you hate vulgarity. A top prestigious guy and you take care of your appearance. People would love to date people like you because you’re a creative interesting character. You can be a little rude and anxious if somebody says no to you. I’m implying that if you know a classic guy, you better watch out.
Of course, it’s very rare to find someone who only listens to one genre, that’s why each person is a mixture of all of these traits. You may find contradictions between the various music styles, but that’s normal since we all have different moods at different times.
What if Hip Hop, Dance, Metal, Pop and Classic were real people? How would they act?
I’ve prepared a short comedy sketch called “The Office Shuffle” that explores the various types of music and its effect on the personality, check it out:
