Which top 5 foods to eat before a workout on a Keto diet

The ketogenic diet (or keto diet, for short) can be best described as a low-carb, high-fat diet that offers many health benefits. Multiple studies have shown that this diet can help lose weight while also improving your health and fitness.
When you’re on the keto diet, you reduce carbohydrate intake to replace it with fat, placing your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When your body is in this state, it becomes more efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can help supply your brain with energy. Following this diet can also reduce blood sugar and insulin levels, which pairing it with increased ketones can contribute to additional health benefits.
There are several types of ketogenic diets that you can follow, it all depends on your goals and preferences. The main reason why so many people are following this diet is because of its health benefits, which includes weight loss, it can help the risk factors that contribute to heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, brain injuries, acne and more.
If you’re on a keto diet and don’t know what foods to eat before a workout, we’ve got your back! As you well know, pre-workout snacks go along the lines of a handful of carbs, some protein and a healthy fat. But, because you’re on a keto diet, this should be reversed. We did some research and compiled a list of some high-fat, moderate-protein keto snacks that can help you get through your workout when you need a little extra boost of energy. Check out what you can consider eating to maximize your iconic man workout below:

Avocado egg salad: Quick, easy and tasty. Don’t get freaked out by the ‘egg salad’ bit. We know you’re on a keto diet. So, instead of adding mayo, substitute that for avocado. If it’s too ‘bland’ for you, you can always shake some everything-bagel seasoning in there for flavor. Don’t add the bagel, just take the seasoning and add to taste.

Smoked salmon cucumber roll ups: These are pretty, tasty and convenient enough to put together for a quick pre-workout snack. Cut a cucumber into long, thin slices (so you can use them to roll), spread on some cream cheese and add fresh smoked salmon. Once you have it all laid out, go ahead and roll it all up.

Creamy avocado tuna boats: If you have an avocado and you have tuna, you are ready to make your creamy avocado tuna boat! Avocado is a great source of good fat and tuna is the protein you’re looking for to help you boost your energy before your workout. If you’re not a tuna fan, you can always use salmon instead. You can combine the tuna with cucumber, green onions and a bit of black pepper for taste. And yes, if you want to add mayo, go for it!

Avocado pepperoni salad: Don’t worry, it’s not technically a salad. Cut some avocado into cubes, add pepperoni (as the protein) and you can always add mozzarella pearls. The cheese will be a source of calcium combined with your healthy fat and small portion of protein. Plus, who doesn’t like some cheese?

Keto yogurt bowl: We get it, dairy isn’t always the best idea before a workout. You’re always welcome to substitute any dairy yogurt with coconut milk or soy-based yogurts that can still provide great taste without having to worry about upsetting your stomach. To add a few carbs, add fresh berries and healthy fats from pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut and almond butter. Slurp up before your workout and enjoy!
No matter what type of diet you’re following, you should always make sure you’re fueling your body accordingly. If you feel hungry or feel like your workouts are being impacted because you’re not following a healthy diet, try some of the foods we shared with you and see how your performance changes. You might just need a little extra boost.
Regardless of the diet you’re on, there are always alternatives that you can consider. Take care of your body and your diet, both go hand in hand. And remember, a healthy combination of a workout routine and a diet is also the combination of an iconic man in the making!
