Job Interview: How to Nail It Like A PRO
“Interviewer: So, tell me about yourself.
You: I’d rather not… I kinda want this job.”
You: I’d rather not… I kinda want this job.”
Admit it, we’ve all been there, waiting for our interview to come like it’s going to turn our lives upside down, worrying and overthinking about how we might actually mess it up and stay without a job for eternity, then end up as homeless waiting for a penny ( yea, our minds can definitely take us places when we overthink ).
So, to avoid all the mess, I’m here today to tell you about some tips that I’ve learned in my last few interviews.
Confidence Is Your First Weapon
I think lack of confidence is the most common reason why interviewees don’t land the job after their meeting with the interviewer. I’ve seen many of my acquaintances get really anxious 5 mins before the interview. And when it’s time, they start to babble and speak nonsense until they apologize and ask if they can start over.
Honestly, if I were the employer and I had someone in the company confused and shaking whenever the boss asked them to do something, then I’d be damn stupid to hire him.

Every company is looking for a confident person, confidence makes them feel safe, secure, and it adds a lot of character depth to you as an iconic man.
But careful! There’s a thin line between confidence and arrogance, as much as everybody loves to have a self-confident person, nobody wants egotism in the company either.
Get Ahold of Your Emotions!
Let me tell you this, it’s absolutely fine to feel a little worried before your interview, it’s actually needed. But with worry, comes greater emotions; Fear, Excitement, Pride, Shame, etc. All of these can ruin your interview if you don’t control them.
For example: Don’t show too much excitement about the position (“YES, YES, I’ll do everything the company asks for, I love you and I love everyone who works in this company so much”), What a lunatic, OUT! Funny enough, I’ve seen people take it this far.

Even worse, I’ve seen people spilling out their anger all over the place (“YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO ASK ME THAT QUESTION! HOW DARE YOU?”), you’re probably wondering now where the heck I saw such people; Maybe in smaller companies, And I think these are the extremes, hopefully.
The thing is, when you show that your emotions are stable, the interviewer gets the impression that you will be able to deal with your co-workers during tough times and you won’t fall apart when a problem comes up and it’s your job to fix it. And that’s why I think emotions play a major role in the interview process.
Give a Killer First Impression
No, I didn’t mean to terrorize them with a gun. I want you to make them feel like you own this interview, like you’re a 100% ready and know all the perfect answers for their questions.
Most of the interviewers will start with an “Introduce Yourself” kind of question, I call it the trap question, because they show you their friendly side, that they want to hear your family stories. And unfortunately, you’re the poor prey who falls into their arms and starts telling them about the cute dog that your uncle has, the time when you almost cried because the Game of Thrones’ finale was so bad, STOP!!

What the hell are you thinking? That’s not what they want to hear, they want to know more about your work achievements and the strategies you use to achieve success. After giving them your name and age, you can say something like: “I used to work for (Company’s name), and I did (some of your achievements).
But what if you’ve got no prior work experience? How do you tackle that? That’s not too difficult, give them examples of key moments in your life that made you feel like you did something important, for instance: “When I was 18, I took the decision to (important event)”. This way, you show them that you know exactly what you want, and you’re responsible for the choices you make, which makes them tick the “Decision maker” checkbox in their list.
And that’s how you kill the first 3 mins in the interview. Whatever comes later, will be easier and you will already feel confident enough to carry on till the end.

Another thing that you should be aware of, is how you actually dress. That’s one of the very first things that the interviewers notice. You don’t want to wear Crocs, or shorts for example, you’re not going on holiday, you’re going to a job interview in a professional environment, so please avoid the “Beach Guy” style and preferably wear a formal suit, or at least a semi-formal outfit. Dress appropriately, brush your hair, and most importantly look fresh and clean.
Be the Iconic Man
There are plenty of articles to help you out on understanding what it’s like to be an Iconic man like Mansified or What Makes A Man Standout? And to be honest with you, you do need to have an interesting persona, or even appear as if you do.
An iconic man also keeps his personal life to himself, so don’t discuss it at all. I once had an interview and I felt too comfortable to speak my heart out to the interviewer because she was so friendly, and I forgot to mention some important details, I thought “she’s nice, she likes your story and she’s obviously hiring you”. Poor me, I got a rejection email an hour after I left. So, don’t make the same mistake and only focus on the professional side when you speak.

After all, you’ll be one of the people who represent the company, so you need to own a professional style. And also watch out for these small details:
• Keep your voice tone at an average level
• Moderately express yourself with your body language
• Ask questions about the position to show that you’re interested
Try these tips and let me know in the comments how they worked out for you, I’m pretty sure they will increase your chances of getting hired.
