A Man's Travel guide: Alexandria
Alexandria: An Egyptian Blue Paradise
You mention Egypt to someone and all they can think about is the Pyramids of Giza or The Nile. But also, in Egypt, on the southern coast of the Mediterranean, lies a beautiful paradise called Alexandria.
You mention Egypt to someone and all they can think about is the Pyramids of Giza or The Nile. But also, in Egypt, on the southern coast of the Mediterranean, lies a beautiful paradise called Alexandria.
I can’t really describe Alexandria as an underrated city, as it is the second largest city in Egypt. If you look at its scenery, especially at the shore, it’s a rare wonderful blue view.
You won’t have to worry about your budget, this is a trip that could literally cost you 10 times less than Hawaii or Thailand.
Thinking about going there on your holiday? Of course, it’s the perfect relaxation resort. But one can easily get lost between all of its beauties. So, let me give you a quick tour around it.

The Safety
Safety first! In case you’re wondering whether Alexandria is a safe place to go to, it is. The streets are mostly crowded which makes it so hard for someone to even think about harassing or stealing you. Pickpockets exist just as in any touristic place, but you’re good to go if you’re carrying a backpack with your stuff in it.
The city barely sleeps, the streets are alive from 7 am till midnight. It’s better of course not to stay in the streets after midnight if you don’t have any events to attend.
The Relaxation Spots
If a calm place to chill and meditate is what you’re looking for, you have the whole Corniche to walk by, but in case you want us to be more specific here are some spots you should check out:
Mediterranean Azur Hotel
Even if you’re not staying in the hotel, you can buy a day use ticket and enjoy its calm atmosphere. They’ve got a nice sea view, 2 pools, and a tasty restaurant.
El Montazah Gardens
Green, green and green. That’s what you can expect to see when you get there. You go there to turn off your mind and listen to the sound of birds in the trees around you. If you feel hungry there are multiple places where you can grab food. We highly suggest that you go on weekdays to avoid the crowd.

The North Coast
This one’s a little distant from the heart of the city but it’s absolutely worth it. There is where all the sea resorts exist: “Porto Marina, Hacienda Bay, Marassy, Amwaj”. You can easily get there using Uber. This one is our top pick.
All of the 3 have beautiful public and private beaches, so don’t forget to bring your swimsuits.
The Food
If you’re a foodie and want to explore the distinct tastes of Alexandria, you’ve targeted the right place. The city has a huge range of food types, from oriental to international.
If you’d like to try out new tastes, you should start with “Koshary, Kebda, Kofta, and Kebab” that’s quite a lot of K’s but you can also try “Mahshi, Rice with almonds and Molokheya”.
As for your desserts, here are some that you simply can’t hate: “Kounafa, Om Ali, Zeinab’s fingers (not actual fingers, don’t worry), Meshmesheya and cheesecake.”
Cheesecake, what a strange dessert! I know that it’s hard for you to process all of this. But these exist in almost every corner of Alexandria. All you have to do is to correctly pronounce their names when you’re making your order (hopefully!).
Feeling like that’s a lot for you and you just want to eat your favorite meals? The city is full of European, American, Chinese and Mexican restaurants that you can eat at.
Still not feeling comfortable? McDonald’s and KFC are as famous as any of these and they’ve got you covered.

The Museums
A city that was loved by Alexander the Great and Cleopatra must have some decent history, indeed it does. There are plenty of museums that you can visit if you’re a history addict.
Just to mention some of them, you have “Bibliotheca Alexandrina”, “Fort Qaitbay” and “Alexandria National Museum”.
But we’ll leave it up to you to discover the rest of the museums and go on your own historic adventure.
The Shopping
Because obviously, your wife and kids will get the desire to shop on their trip. Alexandria won’t disappoint you; it has got 2 large malls that have everything you might need to buy.
San Stefano and City Center will both provide you with a lot of entertainment aside from the shopping, as you can also visit their cinemas to watch the new blockbuster or take your kids to their fun amusements.
If you’re going solo and want a mysterious kind of like the “Thrift Shop” experience, El Mansheya is the place to go.
The Nightlife
For every party lover out there, the city has got many nightclubs and bars that you can go to and stay up there until late. However, this is something you should do in the weekend because the parties are louder and more hyper. Unless of course you want to chill and have a nice conversation with someone.

People
Lastly, the people in Alexandria are what makes it feel special and alive. They’re so simple and easily pleased. They will offer you help before you even ask for it. You will feel like you’re one of them, like you were friends with them a long time ago. They will inspire you and may change the way you think about life.
The Conclusion
“Some places can’t be described; they can only be experienced”
No matter how long this article is, I can never explain it to you, not with words, not with adjectives. This is one of those places that are full of feelings, and the only way I can pass along these feelings to you is by making you visit it.
Alexandria is way more than just a sea view, so plan your journey, get your tickets, sit back and enjoy the ride.
