The Silliest Things in Game of Thrones Season 8

“The Night is Dark and Full of Errors”

It’s official, the 8th Season of Game of Thrones is the worst one in the entire show. So many bad decisions and wrong choices have led the fans yelling at HBO. How could the most beloved TV show in the whole world get totally ruined? And why? We all waited until the finale, hoping for anything to make us forgive the creators but sadly we ended up disappointed.

After the finale of Season 8, I turned off the TV and sat alone in silence for 10 mins just to let that ending sink in. A bad conclusion wasn’t really a surprise for such a disappointing season, but I felt that it was way worse than expected, leading me to think of all the unforgivable silly things that this season has offered its fans.

*MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD*

The Dumbest Ways to Die

Since the very first season, Game of Thrones has been known for its violent gut-punching deaths. I think that was a huge factor for drawing people’s attention. The gory kills of major characters at the most unexpected times once made this TV show very special. Sadly, we barely have any of that this season.

One of the stupidest deaths was how Arya killed the Night King, the show has been building the hype for it since they made him the leader of the White Walkers and everyone in the show has been talking about how powerful he is and that they’re all doomed to die if he arrived in the North. And just like that, the Night King dies with a stab that a nine-year-old can potentially survive and then explodes immediately. Seriously? That’s it? That’s the end of the White Walkers!?

But I honestly booked the award for the dumbest death for someone else. CERSEI LANNISTER’s DEATH! If the writers had the option to choose from a list of ways to kill the most hated villain in the show, “crushed by rocks” could possibly rank as #2000. They could’ve made Daenerys kill her, or Jaimee for instance, Tyrion, Jon, Arya, Sansa, pretty much anyone in the show. She could’ve had a deadly pneumonia and it would still make a better excuse to let her go. I simply don’t understand their need of giving her a dramatic goodbye scene followed by a very normal death.

The Dehydrated Set

Look, I get that they’re very tired and they’re doing their best to finish the season. But isn’t there anybody who keeps an eye at the scene that they’re shooting? Come on, a Starbucks Coffee cup in front of Emilia Clarke and nobody speaks a word? The series video editing crew removed the cup later on and explained how they were exhausted, which made people sympathize with them and started to get over it. But then it happened again:

2 episodes later…

Fans: Is this a “Water Bottle”?

The show managed to keep an eye on the smallest details for 7 seasons, only to completely give them up in its final season.

The Long Night was Dark, VERY Dark

And it just doesn’t stop there, there are so many other missing factors. I feel that the creators should also know that when fans ask for a dark battle, they don’t mean a battle where they can’t see shit, they mean a solid battle with enough blood, deaths and fairly good brightness, which we didn’t get in the season’s unwatchable third episode “The Long Night”.

Bran? That Came Out of Nowhere!

Just when you thought the ending could make it all up for you, nope, it didn’t. When Jon killed Danny and you thought it was time for him to finally sit on the iron throne. One of the writers decided that Bran didn’t get his fair share of attention during the season so why not make him the king? I’m pretty sure the writers had it in mind that this ending would piss off many fans, yet they decided to carry on with it. Well, congratulations for their bravery but to almost everyone, this was a very anticlimactic ending.

I’m sad to admit that there were so many mistakes in this season, starting from the non-existent writing to the big plot-holes. But I also have to admit that the actors did a fantastic job in their performances, the cinematography was top notch and Ramin Djawadi created an emotionally fitting soundtrack that is nothing short of a masterpiece and I can’t wait to see his work in the upcoming season of “Westworld”.

Small Tip: I wouldn’t advise you to end your HBO subscription after Game of Thrones has ended, there are a lot of exciting surprises on their upcoming schedule such as: “Chernobyl”, “Watchmen”, “His Dark Materials”, “Big Little Lies Season 2” and of course “Westworld Season 3”.

As much as I’m angry with the show’s final season, I can’t deny that I had a great time watching the rest of the seasons. The show managed to link us with its characters, to make us fully engaged with its story and it had everyone talking about it for the last 3 years. The show as a whole is still amongst the best shows out there, at least to me, since I believe in this quote:
