The museum goer: a dying breed
The digital era we are living in, has many perks but as men become more interested in their phones than their surroundings, the museum goers and art lovers are becoming a breed in danger of extinction.
Museum going has been diminished to a travelling must-do. Nowadays, men make far fewer visits to their local museums in comparison to 10 years ago. When they do visit one, taking photos and posting on Instagram feels like the sole purpose of the trip. What happened to this generation and why have things changed so much?
It always baffles me when I visit a museum and see people constantly checking their Phones or devices, rather than the art. They will pose in front of a painting (not caring who it is by) or post a picture of a sculpture with a funny caption on their feed, just to appear interesting when they actually totally disinterested in their surroundings. My question is, why not go to brunch? You can chat, make stories, post as much as you like and you get to enjoy delicious food.
The appeal of being known as a Museum Goer, instead of the normal millennial whereabouts, is that it makes you look sophisticated, cultured and artsy. And boy, do classy women love this type of men. The allure is only temporary though since these type of men are not necessarily art savvy.
On the other hand, even older men who are genuinely interested in art seem to be sucked into the pop culture obsession, of over-sharing every moment of our lives. Instead of enjoying the art pieces around them, they obsessively photograph everything without taking a moment to acknowledge the beauty in front of them.
Occasionally, you will encounter men in museums and galleries who are there for the art and the exhibits. Who will stand for a long time gazing at a painting or reading the label to find out more about the artist. Men who can’t wait for the chance to go on a museum trip or a date. Of course museums are a great idea for dates and it speaks volumes about you but if you are just doing this to impress a girl, she will find out and think of you as pretentious.
And then there are the men who love going to museums either archeological, natural history, art etc. Who are mocked by their friends and called with feminine nicknames. Well if you belong in this category, research shows that you're more intelligent, sensible and happier. Recent studies indicated that people are happier when they spent their money on experiences rather than material purchases. Yes, going to museums can make you happier and more interesting to the ladies.
So embrace it! Don’t allow to be bullied because your fellow men are not interested in arts. An iconic man is someone who wants to keep learning, who indulges in the beauties of life, who enjoys art and is not scared to do things on his own. Just because you are dying breed, you shouldn’t give up on it.
Go on museum trips alone or with company, learn about arts and history and be the most interesting person of your group. Who knows, you might meet the girl of your dreams staring at your favorite painting. Or meet fellow art-lovers. We only live once and we should do whatever makes our heart skip a beat.

A funky person who likes change. Loves travelling, photography, eating and binge-watching shows. Favorite pastime is eating and of course uploading pictures of fancy food on Instagram. Sings out loud when she is writing and loves reading crime novels.
