Indoor v Outdoor skydiving: The Breakdown
Both of them are classified as extreme sports. Both of them require guts. Both of them feel like your flying. Both of them offer a sense of liberty. Which one is for you then?
Probably at least one type of Skydiving is on your bucket list. We all dreamed at some point or another to be able to fall and fly in the air. It is the Superman syndrome after all. Nowadays, there are several options on how to achieve that Superman status (even if it doesn’t last for long). Skydiving is one of them. You get to fly in the air, let gravity take over and in that moment you feel entirely free or freaked out.
Although similar, they do have some basic differences and it is recommended to start off with indoor skydiving, as it is a safer approach for first-timers. It also gives you the opportunity to try out your fear threshold. The costs are different, the equipment and the age limit. No matter which type of skydiving you go for and why, the point is to come off as iconic whilst doing it. Below, we breakdown each ones perks and give you some basic tips on how to practice them.
How does Indoor Skydiving works?
Indoor Skydiving to the dismay of many doesn’t require a plane or an assimilation of it. It is practiced in a vertical wind tunnel and doesn’t require a parachute. The air running in high speed simulates the free fall sensation and supports your weight so you can ‘float’. It makes you feel safe although you are in a limited space. The best part is that unlike outdoor skydiving, in the tunnel you can spend more time (if you can afford it of course).
Who can go for Indoor Skydiving?
Practically anyone no matter their age, body weight or mobility issues. People who are afraid of heights can do it as well and skydivers use it for practice.
Why do Indoor Skydiving?
For all the reasons already mention, it’s also a thrilling non-scary experience. Indoor Skydiving can prepare you well for going on a plane to jump. It will make the experience less overwhelming and you will look better in the video (you have to buy it to show around). Also, it’s a lot cheaper than outdoor skydiving, aviation is expensive.
How does Outdoor Skydiving works?
First of all, jumping out of a plane requires some training. The instructor will talk you through the experience and he/she will give you detailed instructions. On your first jump, you are obliged to fall with an instructor (as a precautionary measure and it also it works as a safety net). You have to sign a waiver for all liabilities moments before the fall which is very scary and stressful. The weather plays a huge part in outdoor skydiving. If the weather conditions are not optimal you won’t be able to go up and you will have wasted your time and petrol to get there.
Who can go Outdoor Skydiving?
You have to be over 18 and usually below 70. You need to be within the weight limit (the maximum is around 240 pounds). Ideally, you shouldn’t be afraid of heights or suffer from a heart condition. If you want to go on your own, you will have to attend a series of classes in preparation of your dive.
Why do Outdoor Skydiving?
The view is extraordinary and your adrenaline pumps around your whole body. Everything looks really small from up there and it does put your own little problems into perspective. It is a life-changing experience that makes a great anecdote at parties. Those moments before the jump where you get to enjoy the beautiful views and the thrill once the airplane door opens up, is unparalleled. The parachute definitely changes everything, that peaceful moment when you’re floating in the air will put you in a Zen mode (if you’re a person who is able to relax). Plus, it is an impressive sport to have on your dating profile and you can make yourself look cooler when you describe your experience to any lady.
Indoor v Outdoor skydiving the Verdict:
Both of them are fun experiences and are classified as extreme sports. In both you get to experience the fun of free fall and the flying/floating sensation. Each are fun in their own way and a great experience to have. You can meet new people and make new friends, if you do it regularly as a sport or even join an association.
Indoor Skydiving is for everyone and is an absolute must for any iconic man. Save up a little money and make sure you go with a friend to take pictures and videos of you while you’re at it. Who knows you might make it your next hobby.
Outdoor Skydiving has some limitations but almost everyone who tries it once wants to do it again. It’s a liberating, fulfilling experience that can change your life perspective. When it comes to the ladies, it will make you look like the most Iconic Man in the room (and a bold risk taker).
We suggest starting off with indoor skydiving and start saving money for outdoor. When you do it, we would love to hear from you so send pictures and comments in our contact tab.
